Favorite Essential Oils For Restful Sleep

Today I’m sharing my favorite essential oils that promote restful sleep! I love using my diffuser at bedtime and generally rotate through four diffuser recipes. I explain them in the video below, but scroll down for more in-depth details, and more ideas! {grin}

Pin this for later, HERE.

Essential oils that are personal favorites for bedtime are:

  • Lavender is well known for its calming aroma.
  • Cedarwood has a warm, woodsy aroma that is comforting, calming, and grounding.
  • RC is a powerful blend of Spruce, Cypress, and three types of Eucalyptus oils (E. globulus, E. radiata, and E. citriodora) that makes me feel like I’m at a spa! I use this one often in the fall and winter.
  • Palo Santo is from the same botanical family as Frankincense. It is spiritually grounding, uplifting, and helps balance emotions.
  • Northern Lights Black Spruce has a rich, woodsy aroma that is grounding and emotionally strengthening.
  • Believe contains Idaho Blue Spruce, Idaho Balsam Fir, Frankincense, and other essential oils that may encourage feelings of strength and faith.

My Go-To Bedtime Diffuser Recipes

If you’re new to essential oils, start slow with just 3 drops total. You can always add more if you’d like! You may want to experiment with the number of drops of each oil to see what you prefer.

Want more? I asked my oily friends about their favorite essential oils for sleep, and here they are!

“I default to Lavender or Sleepyize.” – Teresa K.

“Lavender and Bergamot” – Kay S.

“My house is old and funky! I don’t have an outlet near my bed to diffuse at night! that will be fixed this spring, so, I put a drop of lavender and stress away into my hands and rub it on my pillow. Five minutes and I’m out!” – Michelle H

“Gentle Baby lately. Been diffusing for one of my puppers and it really relaxes me too!” – Darlene S.

“Rutavala” – Adrienne S.

“Current blend Northern Black Spruce plus White Angelica. Also love patchouli, lavender, vetiver & cedarwood combo” – Kim S.

Food for thought – what is the root cause of sleeplessness?

Finding the root cause of what is keeping you up at night and addressing it will do far more than blindly throwing OTC medicines, prescriptions, or even natural remedies at it. If sleeplessness is an on-going issue for you (like it was for me) it may be a symptom of chemical or mold toxicity – which is a whole other topic (that I may eventually blog about) – but something to seriously consider. Google it, and talk openly about it with your doctor! Bottom line, ditching toxins in your home and being careful about what you put in and on your body will only help your body systems to function as they should.

Often, emotions and/or a racing mind can keep us up at night. I highly recommend reading and using Carolyn L Mein’s Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils. It’s great for pinpointing the precise emotion and releasing it! If you choose to order it, you want the print version because there are several charts (which is what you’ll reference again and again) that are easier to read in print.

In the video above, I mentioned that I also use my iTOVi bioimpedance device to learn what essential oils my body needs emotionally, physically, or environmentally (influences how you react to what is going on around you). It uses biofeedback, the same technology that FitBit uses. I’m always amazed by how accurate it is, still after all this time! Just in case, my referral link is http://bit.ly/1OXLAgw.

I hope you found this information helpful! Wishing you deep, restorative sleep and sweet dreams!
